In Victoria, at one stage, anyone who wished to advertise themselves as a conveyance could do so and were permitted to do conveyancing work. The downside was that they could be easily be manipulated by real estate agents because of their lack of legal knowledge and many consumers got caught by incompetent and unscrupulous conveyancers and suffered very expensive losses as a result.
The Conveyancers Act
The Conveyancers Act 2006 insists that conveyancers in Victoria be appropriately qualified, insured and licensed. This is very good news for first home buyers who are new to the process of buying a home and rely on the legal expertise of their conveyance when purchasing their home.
Help for first home buyers
Eligible first home buyers can now apply for the First Home Buyers boost grant. This is an extra incentive that assists by
- First home buyers who purchase established homes will receive a boost of $7,000. This amount will double the grant to $14,000
- First home buyers who are building a new home will receive an extra $14,000, increasing the grant to $21,000
Each state and territory Revenue Office is responsible for administering the grants in their respective jurisdictions.
An additional $3,000 bonus will be made available for new home buyers who are purchasing newly constructed homes in regional Victoria, meaning new home buyers can be eligible for up to $15,000 in Government incentives.
